Kansas City is innately a city reliant on the use of the automobile. A large part of understanding the West Bottoms is realizing the impact of highway connections and relating them to the ephemeral essence in experiencing the city through a car window. In order to capture this “essence,” we scanned the city using video. We then selected stills at even intervals and collected the images in both line and mass form. The resulting diagrams illustrate the character of interaction between the urban elements and the elevated viewer over a short amount of time.
