West Bottoms Urban Vision: Stockyards District

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Once the economic center of Kansas City, the West Bottoms now consists of underutilized buildings, a forgotten riverfront, and unique, yet abandoned spaces. Both its history and potential give the West Bottoms a character separate from the rest of the city. In order to analyze and create an urban vision for the area, it was divided into five design areas. Right away, the Stockyards District stood out as the true core of the West Bottoms. The site is defined by the Kansas River on the west, the bluff on the east, and Interstate 670 to the north. The development is structured on a framework built around the Riverfront Soccer Complex, Kemper Arena, and the Urban Center.
